How age is calculated
Age is counted in completed years, then completed months, then the remaining days. For example, someone born on March 20, 2000 is 25 years, 11 months and 16 days old on March 8, 2026. When the day of the month hasn't been reached yet, the calculator borrows the number of days in the previous month, which is the same way people count age by hand.
Leap-day birthdays
If you were born on February 29, your birthday is shown as February 28 in years without a leap day. Some countries legally use March 1 instead; check your local rules if it matters for a legal age.
Uses for an age calculator
- Checking eligibility for school, sports leagues, insurance or retirement benefits.
- Filling in forms that ask for age in years and months.
- Finding a baby's or pet's exact age in weeks or months.
- Working out how old someone was on a past date — just change the "age at" date.
